After allowing an average of 31.4 points per game through the first eight games, the Southern Miss Football defense has given up just 7.7 points during the three-game win streak.

Head coach Larry Fedora said the defense was unfairly blamed for the slow start by the Golden Eagles (5-6, 3-4 C-USA), who are off this week.

"There were a lot of people that were on them pretty hard, saying they were the reason we weren't being successful and that wasn't the case," he said. "To see them stay focused, keep believing in what the defensive coaches were telling them and keep doing it, that is rewarding."
